Read with a question

Set a reading purpose and map paragraph functions.

Reading for understanding · 1/5

Method and limits

Write a specific question before reading. Preview headings, definitions, evidence and conclusion. First map structure, then inspect relevant passages. Label each paragraph’s role instead of highlighting everything.

Worked teaching case

Text: “Weekend library seating is tight. Two Saturday counts at 2 pm found 90% occupancy. We suggest a booking trial.” The structure is problem, limited observation, trial proposal. Sunday and evening data are absent.

Judge before reviewing

Review all options
  1. Style does not establish demand or feasibility.
  2. Background cannot replace relevant evidence.
  3. Correct. Select passages by the question.

Independent attempt and revision

Write three reading questions about adding a cafeteria counter; distinguish data from rule questions.

Reference and self-check

Peak waiting distributions need data, staffing costs need budgets, and space restrictions need rules. Keep unanswered questions explicit.

AI collaboration and verification

Simulated AI summary: “90% seat occupancy means 90% of residents support longer opening.”

This is a prewritten teaching candidate, not live model output. Judge independently, then check each claim; you may use your own candidate instead.

Checking hint

The candidate generalizes beyond records or conditions. Preserve denominators, assistance or scope from the lesson. Softer wording alone is not verification.
