Build keyword families
Try concepts, synonyms, formal names and more than one language.
About 15–20 minutes. The following cases are fictional.
Record your first judgment
You search for writing without internet. Documentation may use offline editing or local storage, but those phrases need not mean the same thing.
Understand the judgment process
Identify the object, action and condition: note tool, offline editing and export. Whole questions help exploration; concept combinations make it easier to see which term matters. Prepare separate language variants when useful.
Alternative terms are candidates, not proven equivalents. Offline editing might exclude first login, image recognition or sync; local storage does not necessarily mean no network activity. Check definitions after finding results.
Quotes help locate an exact title or phrase but can overrestrict an early search. Google supports site:, filetype: and minus-word exclusions. Start broad and inspect what each restriction removes; syntax differs across engines.
Checks you can perform
- Extract the object, action and constraints.
- Prepare a synonym and another-language formulation.
- Try broad terms before exact phrases or domain limits.
- Retain useful terminology and verify equivalence.
Guided practice
Write two queries for offline note-taking and explain why not to quote the whole question immediately.
Explore the explanation
Try “笔记工具 离线编辑 导出” and “note app offline editing export”, then add a product if known. Exact wording can miss formal terms. Distinguish editing from online activation.
Apply it in a new context
You seek a report described by news as a young people’s work survey. How should you change the search?
Compare after attempting
Extract publisher, year, author and formal title from the story. Search institution plus topic if the title is unknown, then try exact original-language titles rather than repeating a media paraphrase.
Preserve a revision record
More terms and restrictions do not automatically produce more reliable results.
Check whether you supplied inspectable evidence, a feasible next step and revision conditions. Revealing an answer is not mastery.
