Decide what it is for before saving it

Saving an article keeps a doorway to it. If you are preparing a project report, ask which judgment the source can support. If you cannot name a use, leave it on a reading list rather than forcing a full note.

Separate the source, evidence and your inference

Paraphrase what the source actually says and leave a location you can revisit. Record its support: data, an argument, personal experience or no stated basis. Put your application idea separately. Do not turn “may help” into “proven effective” when summarizing.

Fictional source: “Our group collected agenda items before last week’s meeting; three members felt the discussion was more focused.” Usable note: this is short-term subjective feedback from one group, not evidence that all meetings improve. My application: trial it at the next meeting, record unresolved items and time spent, then decide whether to keep it.

Keep the boundaries to prevent later misuse

Record population, time, version and exceptions. Mark unknowns as unchecked; a complete template does not make a claim true. Software methods can change with versions, and one experience may not apply to another task.

Leave your future self a next action

End with a concrete use and a reason to recheck: “Use as background for next week’s report; revisit the original table before quoting numbers.” A note need not cover an entire article. It should let you reconstruct the reasoning.
